Why write a blog? Bach-cause

So, why am I writing a blog?  Is it because George, Aaron, Rey, and Rob do? Is it because I think I personally have something important to say? No, and no.  I’m writing a blog because God has put it on my heart to be a better communicator, and this is one of the ways I can develop my communication skills while sharing something God puts on my heart.

Why Soli Deo Gloria?  I was recently fascinated by a recent article about the great composer J. S. Bach.  He was a devout Christian whose work was often criticized because his music was non-traditional, thus sinful.  He responded by saying “The main purpose of my music is to glorify God. Some people do this with music that is simple. I haven’t chosen to use a simple style, but my music comes from my heart as a humble offering to God. This honors God no matter what musical style I use.”  He knew that his ability to write music was only possible with God. He started each work by writing “J.J.” at the top of each page, shorthand for Jesu java which translates to “Jesus help (me)”.  At the completion of the work, he wrote “S.D.G.”, his shorthand for Soli Dio Gloria, which translates to “To God alone be the glory.”

I’m not sure what I’ll write in the coming days, weeks, months, or years but I do know that before I begin, I will humbly ask for Jesus to help me, and whatever I pen, for God alone to receive the glory.
